Employment

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock is the only academic health sciences university in the state of Arkansas. We are the state’s largest public employer, with more than 10,000 employees in 73 of 75 Arkansas’ 75 counties. UAMS, with its intersection of education, research, and clinical programs, brings a unique capacity to lead the health care improvement in Arkansas. Among its assets for leadership are its status as the only academic health center in the state, its statewide network of centers for public education and clinical outreach, its emphasis on population health, and its leadership in health informatics and statewide information technology. In addition, UAMS has a unique capacity of translational research — speeding the rate at which research can inform clinical care and health improvement.

UAMS’ Department of Biomedical Informatics is a vibrant environment for research. It hosts multiple NIGH/NCI funded projects and provides biomedical informatics insights to the entire UAMS community. The expertise and research interests of DBMI faculty cover multiple key disciplines of Biomedical Informatics, including Imaging Informatics, Bioinformatics, Clinical and Clinical Research Informatics, and semantic Web technologies in the Life Sciences.

Radiomics Post Doc

The Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences seeks a post-doctoral fellow for researching and developing tools and resources for radiomics. The fellowship position is funded for 2 years. The successful candidate will be working in the group of Dr. Fred Prior, chair of the department and an expert in imaging informatics and quantitative image analysis. Dr. Prior’s group is a funded member of the National Cancer Institute’s Quantitative Imaging Network and is actively developing tools to identify imaging phenotypes, radiomic pipelines and cancer informatics tools. UAMS is world-renowned for its development of advanced therapies for Multiple Myeloma. This research has generated a unique information repository of radiology image (PET, MRI), gene expression profiles, and therapy outcomes data that is available for radiomic and radiogenomic analyses. In addition, Dr. Prior’s team manages the Cancer Imaging Archive for NCI and provides a valuable and rapidly expanding collection of cancer imaging data. The successful candidate will become an active part of multiple cancer radiomics studies. Qualifications needed include:

  • PhD in Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of medical imaging and quantitative image analysis.
  • Strong programming experience in languages frequently used in scientific computing, especially for computing with ontologies (Java, Matlab, C++ ) and managing or converting scientific data (e.g., Python).
